Player-first coaching and club fitting for golfers who want better performance, not more confusion.

At Swing Shack in Johannesburg and Stick in Paarl, we help golfers improve in the way that actually makes sense for them. Sometimes that starts with coaching. Sometimes it starts with fitting. Often it is both. The point is the same: understand the player, remove the guesswork, and make better golf more repeatable.

"Player first.
Not club first.
Not method first."

EVERY GOLFER WANTS TO PLAY BETTER.
FEWER GET THERE.

Every golfer wants to play better. Fewer destructive drives. Better irons. More reliable wedges. More putts holed. Lower scores. More enjoyment.

But most golfers get pulled in the wrong direction. They are sold technical tips they cannot use, clubs that do not suit them, or a version of improvement that looks impressive for five swings indoors and disappears on the course.

We take a different view.

At Play Your Best Golf, the golfer comes first. Before recommending a lesson plan or a fitting session, we look at the whole picture. What is your ball flight doing? What is your miss pattern? What are you trying to improve? What is your current equipment helping or hurting? What is the simplest path to better outcomes?

That player-first thinking sits at the centre of both our coaching and our fitting.

CLARITY, NOT CONFUSION.

Coaching should not feel like being buried under a pile of swing positions and vague encouragement. It should create clarity.

Our coaching philosophy starts with impact and ball flight. The ball tells the truth. If the ball is starting right, curving left, flying too high, coming out low, spinning too much, or lacking distance control, those are clues. We work backwards from the shot to understand the movement creating it.

Using TrackMan, video, and plain language, we help golfers understand cause and effect without drowning them in technical nonsense. We care about fundamentals, but we do not force every golfer into the same model. There is no one perfect swing. There is only a swing that works for your body, your tendencies, and your goals.

For some players, improvement comes from better sequence and strike. For others, it comes from better face control, smarter practice, or clearer intent. For many, it also means building confidence, trust, and a more useful mental approach so that the work done in practice actually shows up on the course.

Good coaching makes golf simpler. That is the standard.

THE SAME STANDARD APPLIES TO FITTING.

Too much of what passes for fitting is just retail theatre with a launch monitor. A few balls get hit. A few flattering numbers appear. A recommendation arrives suspiciously close to the product someone wanted to sell anyway.

That is not our approach.

A proper fitting starts with your current clubs, your delivery, your strike pattern, your launch conditions, and the problem you are trying to solve. We test with intention, not chaos. We look at:

Most importantly, we believe the fitting is only half the job. The final club has to match the fitted specification. Loft, lie, length, swing weight, shaft profile, grip specification, and build quality all matter. If the club that arrives does not match the club that performed during the fitting, the fitting has failed.

Better golf starts with better tools — but only if they are actually right for you.

WHY BOTH WORK TOGETHER.

Sometimes a golfer struggles because the movement needs attention. Sometimes the equipment is fighting the movement. Sometimes both are true. A player-first philosophy does not force the answer. It finds it.

That might mean starting with a coaching session to understand ball flight and movement patterns. It might mean starting with a fitting to fix obvious equipment mismatches. It might mean combining both so your technique and your tools move in the same direction.

The goal is not more information. The goal is better golf.
